Star Wars The Force Awakens and Episode VIII
I watched The Force Awakens last Tuesday and I just want to thank Disney, Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, and the cast for giving us this great film. This is the Star Wars that I grew up with. As a fan of the franchise since 1977, I have to admit that I got a little choked up a few times during this film. Probably the most moving scene was of course Han Solo's death at the hands of he and Leia's son Ben(aka Kylo Ren who is the film's main villain). This film featured some of Harrison Ford's best work, IMO. Seeing the big three leads from the original trilogy back on the big screen was like seeing old friends. I really like JJ Abrams' old school approach to film making. Seems to me like this film sort of mirrored certain elements of the original trilogy without being a rehash of what had been done before. There was a great blend of action, humor, and dramatic elements which made the original trilogy great. The scenes between Han and Leia were classic SW. Ford and Carrie Fisher managed to pick up where they left off without skipping a beat. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega did a great job bringing the characters of Rey and Fin to life. Thinking BB-8 is now my second favorite droid next to R2-D2 who in the film had powered down, distraught by his master Luke Skywalker's disapearence. I found myself cheering for Artoo as he slowly powered back up during the film, thinking to myself "come on, buddy. You can do it." I'm hoping we see more of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Episode VIII. My prediction is that Episode VIII will focus on Luke like The Force Awakens sort of focused on Han and Chewbaca. Would like to see Billy Dee Williams return as Lando Calrissian. Looks like Lando would certainly have a score to settle. Anyway, that's it for now. Until next time, behave yourselves out there and have a good one, 'later.

CBS' Supergirl and CW's The Flash Possible Crossover?
This could be possible since both shows are set during the same time period, both shows are produced by WB Television and DC, and The CW is co-owned by CBS and Warner Brothers. Both lead characters are likable by fans as are Grant Gustin(The Flash) and Melissa Benoist(Supergirl). Then there is the Glee reunion factor between Gustin and Benoist which would probably get the Glee fans interested. Pretty much a win-win situation for all involved. Anyway, that's about it for now. Til next time, have a good one and behave yourselves, true believers.

Colonel Bruce Peterson, Martin Caidin, and the Real Story Behind The Six Billion Dollar Man
I was just thinking that maybe instead of a feature film reboot of the classic 1970's TV series which has gotten the greenlight to go into production and a release date(December 22, 2017), the studio which is producing it should go with a docudrama about the actual accident involving the experimental lifting body craft in which the 1972 novel 'Cyborg' written by Martin Caidin was loosely based. Mark Wahlberg could be cast as Lt. Colonel Bruce Peterson who piloted the experimental craft. Maybe cast Robert Downey Jr as Martin Caidin. I've read a little bit into the story of these two guys as well as the 1967 crash itself. Pretty interesting stuff. Anyway, that's about all I have to say about this subject. Until next time, behave yourselves and have a good one. 'Later.

Jeb Bush Thinks Melissa Benoist Is Hot
I don't normally agree with a lot of politicians, but I'm going to have to agree with Jeb on this one. Melissa is a fine looking woman. I watched the series premiere of Supergirl last night and thought the pilot episode was well done. Hoping CBS gives this show a chance. Great to see the minor DC characters getting some attention for a change. From my understanding, Melissa seemed like she had a good sense of humor towards Jeb's comments about her. She seems like a pretty cool woman. The show seems like a throwback towards the 1970's Lynda Carter Wonder Woman TV series mixed in with a little 1970's The Bionic Woman and Lois & Clark The New Adventures Of Superman from the 1990's which were great shows and still hold up to this day. Anyway, that's all I have to say about this subject. Until next time, keep 'em flying and behave yourselves out there, 'later.

Star Wars Battlefront Characters
These are three of the models used for the new Star Wars Battlefront video game. The rendering of these characters is really impressive. Thinking Disney/Lucasfilm should use the Battlefront Han Solo for an animated Han Solo film. Bring in Dave Collins who portrayed Solo in the Smuggler's Gambit and Smuggler's Bounty audio dramas to voice the Han Solo character. When I saw these images posted on Facebook a little while ago, I thought these were photos of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, etc. That's pretty much it for this edition of 'The Fanboy Newsdesk Blog'. Until next time, behave yourselves.

ROM Spaceknight Miniseries Comic Coming in 2016
IDW Comics are bringing everyone's favorite spaceknight ROM back to comics in 2016 in the form of a miniseries. For those who are unfamiliar with the character, ROM was introduced in 1979 as an electronic action figure by Parker Brothers which was equipped with a neutralizer gun along with a couple of other accessories which when plugged into the figure would light up and make sounds. The eyes on the figure would also light up. Marvel Comics Group had the comics license. The ROM comic book series ran for 75 issues and was actually more of a success than the toyline it was based on. I'm looking forward to seeing what IDW has planned for the character. It's also been reported that IDW has also secured the comics license for the iconic Micronauts franchise. More on that later. Until next time, behave yourselves. 'Later.

Michael B. Jordan Cast As Boba Fett?
Actor Michael B. Jordan('Red Tails', 'The Fantastic Four', and the upcoming 'Rocky' spinoff 'Creed') is rumored to be under consideration by Disney and Lucasfilm to portray bounty hunter Boba Fett in an upcoming Star Wars spinoff film. Uh, from my understanding, Boba Fett was introduced in Star Wars Episode II Attack Of the Clones as an unaltered clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett who was white. How would this make sense unless the plan is to retcon the events of AOTC. Personally, I'd rather see Daniel Logan come back as the adult Boba Fett if he's interested in doing so. Just a thought. Anyway, that's it for this blog. As always, thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings and behave yourselves. 'Later.

Classic Saturday Morning TV
Really miss the old Saturday morning blocks of programming the networks used to broadcast. Now it's nothing but these goofy E/I programs. Cartoon Network programs cartoons, but that doesn't really cut it. Thinking it's time for Antenna TV and Me-TV to step it up and add blocks of classic Saturday morning programs to their schedules for those of us who grew up with those shows when they were originally broadcast on ABC, NBC, and CBS and for those people of my generation who may want to pass those memories of getting up early on Saturday mornings onto their kids and for some, their grandkids. Anyway, I just wanted to get this off my chest. Thanks for taking the time to read my rambling. Until next time, behave yourselves. 'Later.

10 Years Of Serenity
On September 30, 2005 Universal Studios released 'Serenity', a feature film based on Joss Whedon's short-lived TV series 'Firefly' which was broadcast on FOX during the 2002-03 season. 13 episodes were produced for the series, but only 12 were actually broadcast. FOX also made the mistake of broadcasting several episodes out of order, including the 2 hour pilot which was broadcast as the series finale when FOX pulled the plug. The feature film gave the series enough closure, but I'm hoping Joss will be getting back into writing, directing, and producing original projects now that his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) is behind him. Great to see that Nathan Fillion(Captain Malcom Reynolds) has managed to find further success in the ABC series 'Castle' which is another great show, BTW. Well, that's about it for this blog. 'Til next time, behave yourselves. 'Later.

The Muppets On ABC
Not superhero or Sci-Fi related, but this begs to be posted. I watched the premiere of The ABC's The Muppets and liked it. It's about time that these iconic characters "grew up" as those of us who were kids in the 1970's did. Jim Henson once said that he never really intended for his creations to be "kid friendly" with the exception for the characters which were created for Sesame Street and maybe Fraggle Rock. Might be a good idea for ABC to consider moving The Muppets to a later time slot on their schedule. Thinking 9 or 9:30PM perhaps and/or post a viewer discretion warning at the beginning of each episode. Just a thought. Anyway, I hope this show sticks around for a while.

SyFy Filming Zombies In Bremerton, Washington
Looks like Thursday and Friday(September 24 & 25) will be fun times here in good old Bremerton. The notice in the photo says it all. If they want zombies, just hang out at any Kitsap County bar during last call.

RIP, Actor Jack Larson
RIP, Jack Larson. He was the first actor to portray Daily Planet photographer and cub reporter Jimmy Olson in the 1950's syndicated 'Adventures Of Superman' TV series. He was 87. Condolences go out to his family and fans.

Whatever Happened To Lt. Starbuck?
Looks like Starbuck has managed to do well for himself in the yarhens after crash landing on that planet in Galactica 1980's final episode 'Return Of Starbuck'.
Gotham Rise Of the Villains and Suicide Squad
After watching tonight's season premiere of Gotham I'm wondering if there will be some sort of connection to the new season and the upcoming Suicide Squad movie despite Warner Brother's policy of keeping the DC related shows and movies separate, unless that only applies to Arrow, The Flash, and CBS' Supergirl. Tonight's episode of Gotham involved a group of inmates(including the future Joker) escaping from the Arkham asylum. This is just speculation on my part.

CBS' Supergirl
Really looking forward to seeing Melissa Boist take flight in the new CBS series 'Supergirl'. I have a crush on this young lady already. From what I've seen, the series looks like it'll be a good one. Hoping to see possible crossover episodes between Supergirl, The Flash, and Arrow since they're produced by WB and are set during the same timeframe despite The Flash and Arrow being on The CW. Would also like to see Tom Welling show up as Superman and/or Clark Kent in at least one episode, but I'm not holding my breath. Guess we'll see what happens.

Thursday, September 17, 2015
On September 17, 1978, the original Battlestar Galactica premiered as a three hour edition of the ABC Sunday Night Movie. The broadcast was delayed by a half hour on the west coast for an ABC News Special Report involving the signing of the peace accord between Israel and Egypt. I remember my brother and I begging our parents to let us stay up past our bedtimes so we could watch the entire broadcast. John(my brother) saw the crappy edited feature film when he was in Canada with a buddy of his and his buddy's parents in the summer of 1978. As a kid, I had the entire run of the Marvel Comics series, and several of the Mattel toys including the missile firing colonial viper and cylon raider. I still have a few of the novelizations of the TV episodes and the photonovel. This and The Six Million Dollar Man were two shows of the 1970's which have had a big impact on my life. That's about it for now. As always, have a good one and behave yourselves. Thanks for reading.
Darth Vader's First Appearence
People who say stormtroopers are piss poor shots must have forgotten about this business.

Welcome to my first blog. Let me take time to introduce myself. I'm Kevin K. Nelson. I was born in Yakima, Washington. I grew up in and graduated from high school in Poulsbo, Washington. I'm currently living in Bremerton, Washington. I was born on October 5, 1966. Now that we've gotten the brief intro out of the way, I'd like to take time to go into what this blog is all about. I'm what people would consider a fanboy. I'm into science fiction, comics, and toy collecting. Oh yeah, and I'm a Seattle Seahawks fan. This is where I'll be giving my opinions about sci-fi and comic book related movies and TV shows(past and present) as well as what's going on with the action figure and toy biz. You can sort of consider me as the Andy Rooney of geekdom. Anyway, Next month CBS will be premiering the new Supergirl TV series and from what I've seen it looks promising. The woman playing her has recently been compaired to the late Christopher Reeve. Man, to be compaired to that guy is a pretty damn big compliment. What else is going on? Oh yeah, Force Friday has come and gone. Went to the local Wal-Mart to check things out in the ol' toy department. There's a few of the figures I'm interested in, but I'm probably gonna wait a bit to buy them. I've seen comments from several of my fellow SW fans who are bitching about the lack of articulation on the 3 3/4 scale figures. As far as I'm concerned, I think it's cool that Hasbro is kind of going full circle on these figures. They take me back to the days of the original Kenner figures from the 1970's and 1980's. I kind of have a soft spot for the current ReAction figures that Funko Toys are putting out. Haven't picked up any of those yet, but I plan on doing so soon. Anyway, I think I'm gonna cut this short. Until next time, thanks for taking the time to read my BS and behave yourselves. 'Later.
